There was no rise of 95% in trafficked women at the Athens Olympics. There was a rise of 95% in pnreoss (to 181) detected as having been trafficked, including trafficking for forced labour, begging and domestic service, in the whole of Greece in the whole of 2004.But there again, these are facts, and we can't expect ther Met to get those right.

(unfortunately on a literal level most days I'm waiting for my kids' permission to write. They signal it's time by falling asleep)For me, it's not so much needing permission to write as it is waiting for the green light to continue. I am not sure how much positive feedback is enough, but I haven't reached that point yet. We could go into an in depth analysis of why that might be, but I think it's probably more productive for me to tough through it.BTW, TM left a very nice compliment for me today on my blog and it did mean the world to me. So let's make today give a compliment to a fellow writer day.Whose permission? I don't know. The whole world's? I'm not really joking.I like to think the difference would be, if I got tons of green lights and pushes to continue writing, I'd have more confidence. The truth is, I am a vast unfillable sea of need, so better to find some other way of getting confidence!Tracy O'Connors last blog post..

Finally someone recingozes that career colleges not only do an excellent job educating their students but also provide an outstanding educational business model. A business model that is successful and might prove a better model than the state/public schools where completion and placement rates (real outcomes) are not tracked to the same degree as career colleges! As federal and state deep educational funding pockets dry up the number of big name state schools recognizing that the old “we will tell you what is best” model of operation is failing and no longer can they simply hold their hand out for tax payers to cover the bill.

Livingstone may have subsequently made the comment you quote regarding Abbas, but the fact remains that he has appeared in support of Rahman during his mayoral campaign, thus clearly endorsing him as a candidate. In so doing, he has raised questions from various quarters about whether this is a violation of the party's rules.

Mediocricy will do with many of the public and employees at large in this country who don't tend to benefit when they are shareholder' owned, but how the cards turn if these lack-lustre employees became true shareholders as in the JL model.Something came to mind then If coxons are public quoted companies, and the staff of which surely there are many tens of thousands of them (shudder) were encouraged to all save up enough money to buy ALL the shares of their employers, wouldn't that make the exact same people turn from coxites to a hard working, friendly bunch.Johnny how many shares by how many staff in coxons to buy the entire shareholding out ? If they started such a move, the price would drop out of the bottom and they'd be able to afford it .. amusing chuckle.

Thanks for the tips you have discussed here. Furthermore, I bevelie there are many factors which really keep your motor insurance premium decrease. One is, to bear in mind buying vehicles that are in the good set of car insurance organizations. Cars which can be expensive will be more at risk of being lost. Aside from that insurance coverage is also based on the value of your automobile, so the higher priced it is, then higher the premium you pay.

Thank you very much for highlighting this issue Lynn. If all these shop-owners are fcored out of the street, then the shops at the other side of the street will suffer proportionately too, since many of them rely on passing trade. And that will of course then affect all the people living on the surrounding council estates and other local non-affluent people who won't have their cheap local shops and the Well Street community. It could be a disaster.

Nothing like a bit of generalisation! We don't need another corporate chain in the area. We should be supporting local business and protecting our environment in my opinion. This will do neither and if you really want to shop in a supermarket I can count about 7 in the area so plenty to choose from.

Perhaps the most depressing asecpt of the entire process is the lack of any reasoning from the governors as to why they want to become an academy. The consultation document document issued by the governors suggested that the school would get extra funds and be able to generate other extra funds, but Frankie Sulke, in a measured and temperate response, clearly explained why that was not actually the case. We might hope that the governors will now set out why they have decided to apply for academy status, but I fear we may have a very long wait.

The way these contracts are consulted upon, let and managed is at best magnificently incompetent, at worst, I suspect, actually corrupt. Certainly the only real beneficiaries appear to be the contractors who win these highly lucrative contracts, that the residents don't want and end up paying for.I have no faith in THH willingness or ability to conduct an honest consultation. What will it take will wehave to chain ourselves to the buildings in defence of our community spirit!

This is a far different category than either professed non-believers or wayward Christians. I have previously answered the question about those who die without ever hearing the gospel. On Facebook, you can find it in Ask Bob #2 and #6. These aren't available at the blog site, but they'll both be published in the book, which will be coming out soon. Bob Young

What happened here and all too often is that deenlopmvets are undertaken without planning permission. When complaints are made, an application is put in for retrospective planning permission. The Council has very limited staff or cash to fight planning appeals and so is strongly inclined to grant permission. In this way the developers get what they want, all too often ignore any restrictions on their retrospective permission, and so subvert the rule of law. The Council needs to find a way to prevent this syndrome. Otherwise developers will continue to get their way with impunity. Have any planning experts or lawyers got any ideas?

I have two gripes about it though. 1. you cannot turn the alarm off which can be irritating in some situations. Also the alarm does no shut off automatically after a given time, it just keeps going and going which is not always desired 2. The other thing is that the buttons are very exposed and have no cover so they can be easily depressed accidentally. If you want to run or walk with this in your pocket, forget it. For a kitchen of task timer in the house its perfect.

She hadn't attended the consultation, or any of the meetings and was angry from the outset about such a campaign even existing. Still, this needn't evolve into a battle. I would say that the quote about Waitrose is incorrect. There was a Waitrose planned for n16 many years ago apparently and it also faced opposition. I'd also like to throw my two bob in re: the owner of Yum Yum's saying that poor people deserve to shop too. Sainsbury's is not a particularly cheap supermarket at all. The store at Stamford Hill charges a lot more for basic items than general shops on the high st, who are clearly the ones who are set to lose if this superstore opens.

Hackney built the big glass building' named Hackney Services, at a cost of aunrod a356mn. I will be critical in stating that this building should have only been built and funded by Hackney on the basis that Hackney council was a successful in its duty in providing homes, shelter and improved alternative accomodation to house the vulnerable. Instead, the excessive funds highlight the policy and financial carelessness of council officials. Hackney councillors need to get its house in order first. And only then should it be able to hold its head up high and shout from the roof tops that is has been successful in achieving and reaping the reward for supporting the necessary funding for the social/council housing demands for the people of Hackney they are meant to be representing.

I am deeply deustrbid by Joe Paraskeva's situation. There is so much that is wrong about this case. Joe being able to get hold of a lighter whilst under a mental health section, with all the bizarre and unjust twists of the judicial system and IPP sentence he has received. He is a young man in desperate need of treatment and mental health support. He is obviously not a criminal and therefore should not be in prison. I think that not only is this very worrying for Joe and his family but for the wider public too, especially as one in four people suffer from some mental health illness during a life time. I believe that Joe should be immediately transferred to a psychiatric unit so he can be cared for properly, receiving the appropriate treatment.

Some members of Stokey Local deelnitfiy called for a boycott. The idea that Stokey Local is ethnically representative of the area is laughable take a look at videos of both their meetings and demonstration on their website. And why would a supermarket be a threat to the estate agents, restaurants, boutiques, interior design and coffee-shops that make up over 90% of Church Street's shops?Ironically, the greatest threat to the independent nature of the shops on Church Street is the affluent residents who shop there. They're the ones who will make the shops very profitable, which will then encourage landlords to put rents up, which will then force out small businesses to be replaced with Patisserie Valerie/Paul/Carluccios/Scala etc. But then I suspect the affluent Nimbys won't be complaining about that.

I got one of those letters too what was fake or crpeey about it? It was clearly someone's handwriting, just reproduced for how ever many 1000s of voters there were. Not sure it did much good either way. Don't recall Mr Feakes being the mayoral candidate last year. Isn't he a councillor though? This article does neatly show how AV would be an evolutionary change rather than the end of the world' change characterised by the No campaign. Mr Dowd didn't win a majority of the votes cast, and the Lib Dems and Tories weren't that far behind clearly opinion in the seat is divided. I think it's to his credit that he backs a change to a voting system that may have meant that he wasn't elected principle over self-interest perhaps.I think Marion Nisbet's point is the wrong way round surely areas of strength for a party within a constituency are favoured under FPTP, not AV?

How have they engaged local people? When planning and running events, are they considering what local people want to attend? Or asking them? Or are they just doing what they want to do? It just seems to me that this might be a case of people moving into an area and not really engaging with those living in the area I could be wrong but it's difficult to tell as the only people we hear from here are the squatters.

As another resniedt of the island that Wapping will become, I agree wholly with David Leonard in his interview piece. However, I think the problem goes even further it is not only about getting out of Wapping to the East, it is about getting into Wapping from the West! The only way of doing this is going to be to find one's way to the top of Dock St (Royal Mint St, Cable St or Leman St all of which jam very easily) and then travel down Dock St and across into Vaughan Way. It will not only be cars trying to do this but the many trucks which service the businesses in the area. This walling in of Wapping could be avoided if either the Commercial Rd or Whitechapel Rd had been chosen as the primary axis for access to the Olympic area. Also, if either of those had been chosen, regular traffic seeking to avoid the selected route could move either North or South of it. With East Smithfield/The Highway, there is no moving south alternative. This really must be re-thought.Paul Garwood

They have simply said that they have received a ‘solicitors letter’.I am in a position to tell you that the solicitors acting on behalf of myself have written to the school claiming that there were many flaws in the school’s proposal and consultation process. The solicitor’s main objections were:(1) The school failed to comply with its public sector equality duties: a legal binding requirement.(2) The decision was taken on the basis of, and having considered, misleading and/or incorrect financial information and/or without proper steps being taken to obtain the information that was required properly to inform the decision. One glaring example was that the school estimated it would cost them a360,000 to pay for additional services normally provided by the LEA when in fact the DfEs estimate was a378,000 and the LEA estimated the figure to be in excess of a3229,000.(3) The decision was taken in the light of a consultation process in which the information presented to consultees was misleading or incorrect.(4) The decision was taken on a misunderstanding as to the basis on which parental views had been obtained. We have already, as parents, written to Mark Elms and The Chair of Governors Keith Geary, giving them the opportunity to address these important points. So far they have simply inedcatid that the governing body would be ‘discussing this matter’

I think perhaps you shulod check out what you say in this story. As I understand it, the building is near the double roundabout, the timber yard, bakery, shops, newsagent etc. Hardly a residential area. Also I believe that it is a drug & alcohol service not a rehab centre .These people are trying to get off of drink and drugs, there are also plans for support groups for family and carer. It is in addition to the services offered at Lewisham High Street. Do you really think that people want to be seen coming in and out of these places? They will probably come in, go to their session then go home. I wonder where the Brockley Society and these action groups were when the plans for the Bookies at Adelaide Avenue went into Lewisham Council even though there was a bookies straight over the road. And the amount of bars that are opening up in the area selling alcohol!I wish Brockley residents would get down of their high horses and HELP these people who are asking for help instead of trying to block plans to help those less fortunate get a service they need. There is the Darmouth Road service too, no real increase in drug or alcohol problems there.I was at the consultation at St Peters, I was disgusted to be included in the group of residents. I was disgusted at the way some of the action groups spoke to the Council people who had come to discuss the consultation. It was verging on a personal vendetta against the manager who was trying her best to answer all the questions bombarded at her.Go to a consultation and LISTEN WITHOUT PREJUDICE!
