A number of activities will be ongoing on the 19th of October and in the months following, to celebrate the centenary birth year of Nobel Laureate Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar, at the Nehru Planetarium, Nehru Memorial Museum and Library.

On the 19th of October is the talk by Prof. Patrick Das Gupta. This talk, which would attempt to give a user friendly overview of the enrichment given to different areas of Astrophysics through the work of Chandrasekhar.

A special planetarium program has been prepared, titled "Chandra : A stellar life". This planetarium program will be screened during all the shows on the 19th of October. The show timings are - 11:30 AM, 1:30 PM, 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM. The program will also be screened at selected times through the coming year.

Screening of Enrico Agapito's film on Nobel Laureate Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar titled "Chandra : A journey with a star" - all through the day, on the 19th of October, in the exhibition foyer area of the planetarium.

In the month of December, will be held a workshop for college and senior school students on "White Dwarfs, Neutron stars and Blackholes". Following this workshop, the participating students will be encouraged to take up long term learning projects in these areas, taking help from a panel of experts willing to give guidance for student projects. The planetarium will facilitate these projects by acting as an intermediate educational hub between the students and the experts from various astronomy institutions.
