Exhibition Foyer
The Planetarium has an air-cooled foyer area that has some exhibits and photographs related to Astronomy.
The Pride of the Place belongs to the Soyuz – T-10 Module in which Squadron
Leader Rakesh Sharma returned to Earth after his spaceflight and mission in
1984.
There is also a photo exhibition on Yuri Gagarin, the first man in Space, as
well as a photo exhibition on Indo-Russian Space co-operation, – on display at
the Planetarium. The exhibition has been loaned to the Planetarium, by the
Russian Cultural and Science Center.
A small photo exhibition commemorates Kalpana Chawla. The photo exhibition
gives details of her flights STS-87 and STS-107 and a brief biography.
An interesting photo exhibition and
art gallery
captures the influence of Astronomy in Art and Literature, through the ages.
Some of the details of this exhibition can be viewed here. This area also
displays paintings by the Planetarium artist Rajesh Harsh, that have been
inspired by his exposure to Astronomical concepts and views, while working at
the Planetarium.
An annexe of the foyer displays a retrospcetive exhibition of Moon related
studies, from the earliest naked eye observations to the Apollo missions to the
recent Lunar Prospector mission and the upcoming Chandrayaan mission.
